Abstract/Contents:"The cytokinin contents of tops, runners, and roots of Zoysia matrella L. cv. Koraishiba which were subjected to the low temperature in outdoors, were compaired with that of plants remained in warm greenhouse. The daily mean temperatures during experimental period ranged from 15.0 to 4.3° in the outdoors, and from 25.0 to 14.5° in the greenhouse. The plants in the outdoors stopped to grow and their leaf color faded to yellowish green, looking to be in senescence. In [On] the other hand, the plants in the greenhouse continued to grow. The cytokinin which seemed to be glucoside was not detected in any cases with the exception of the tops in the greenhouse. The cytokinin which seemed to be zeatin-riboside were detected in the runners of the outdoors and the tops in the greenhouse. The roots of both treatments contained the substances which seemed to be precusors of zeatin and zeatin-riboside. The pattern of cytokinin distribution of the plants which were subjected to cold seemed to show that the plants in senescence ahd maintained high level of cytokinin in the runners in which had the vesseles to the leaf. The results of this experiment were not favourable to the hypothesis that the senescence is brought with a decrease in the level of cytokinin."
