Abstract/Contents:"Cytokinin activities of rhizomes and new roots of Zoysia matrella Merr. cv. Himekoraishiba in spring were investigated. During the bud burst, zeatin activity was detected in the new roots and reached the higher level at one month after the initiation of new shoots. In the rhizomes, little cytokinin activitiy was detected until the end of April, but it increased at the beginning of May with increasing it in roots. This low level of cytokinin activity in April might be interpreted the consequense of more rapid growth of shoots than roots. We assumed that the low level of cytokinin activity in rhizomes might be favorable to new roots initiation."
