Abstract/Contents: | Discusses changing golf courses from environmental hazards to conservation habitats. Discusses the role that Audubon International has played in protecting environmental interests on golf courses since 1887. Profiles golf courses in Scottsdale, Arizona; Arlington, Texas; and Quincy, Massachusetts which have adopted programs which integrated their courses more closely with the surrounding habitat. Concludes that "space sometimes needs to be shared with wildlife, or at a minimum, to be maintained in an ecologically sensitive manner that gives to the environment more than it takes away. Today's technologies and management techniques can help developers do just that, affording them a chance to make par with the surrounding habitat." |
