Abstract/Contents: | Experiments in 1984 showed that single Japanese beetle traps were not effective in reducing defoliation of plants in the urban landscape, and, in fact, nearly always resulted in more damage than occurred without a trap. Grub populations were neither increased nor decreased in the presence of traps. In 1985 we tested seven different multiple trap arrangements, but none afforded any degree of plant protection. Most arrangements again resulted in more defoliation than occurred without traps. It was concluded that Japanese beetle attractant traps are not an effective pest management tactic for protecting landscape plants. |
