Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the possible environmental effects of building a golf course, including those effects on wildlife habitat, wetland preservation and mitigation, and stormwater retention. Details a study done on a course on Olympic Peninsula in Washington to "monitor nutrient flow in the shallow surface layer of sand-capped fairways" and "monitor the effectiveness of biological filtration techniques that were intentionally incorporated into the design and construction of a golf course." Results include that "total phosphorus and soluble phosphorus have been below 0.1 ppm (parts per million) in every sample" but "some samples indicate accumulation of nitrate-N in downslope areas." |
