Abstract/Contents: | "Under greenhouse conditions, sulfosate at 0.67 kg/ha gave the best control of bermudagrass, quackgrass and Wirestem muhly. Sulfosate at 0.67 and 0.45 kg/ha was consistently more effective than glyphosate at the same rates on bermudagrass, but on quackgrass and Wirestem muhly there was little or no difference in efficacy. Sulfosate and glyphosate at 0.28 kg/ha and fluazifop-butyl at 0.05 kg/ha reduced shoot regrowth of bermudagrass clipped at 24-36 hours. Doubling these rated reduced shoot regrowth of plants clipped at 12-18 hr. Ac 252,925 at 0.08 and 0.17 kg/ha was most effective and allowed little or no regrowth of plants clipped more than 24 hr. after treatment. Control of bermudagrass by fluazifop-butyl and AC252,925 was unaffected by increasing concentrations of CaCO3 in the water carrier. At 0.28 kg/ha, both sulfosate and glyphosate activity were dramatically reduced when water with 500 ppm CaCO3 was used. Increasing CaCO3 concentrations to 750 and 1000 ppm negated nearly all herbicidal effects. Increasing rates of sulfosate to 0.58 kg/ha still gave satisfactory control at 1000 ppm CaCO3. Increasing rates of glyphosate to 0.58 kg/ha improved efficacy at a CaCO3 concentration of 500 ppm but did not give adequate control at higher CaCO3 concentrations. |
