Abstract/Contents:Discusses turfgrass biotechnology, highlighting Round-Up resistant turfgrass. Explains that "rapid adoption of the weed control technology has occurred because of the simplicty of weed control by spring a single product on both crops." Notes potential disadvantages, including that "the herbicide is not totally effective in all situations, and additional chemical or mechanical methods may be needed in some seasons for adequate weed control." Concludes that "it is unwise to pursue those technologies that are highly likely to provide only short-term solutions. An emerging interest in creating sustainable golf course planting should lead us to seek more diverse and creative strategies."
