Abstract/Contents:In an experiment, once weed-free, thick grass roots yielded to a high proportion of herbs and white clover when no nitrogen was applied for two years. ".... When no nitrogen was applied, every square meter was deprived, annually, of approximately 6 gN, 1 gP, and 4 g of lime. The green matter on the plot, where no nitrogen was applied, had increased by 900 g per year. The grass yield increased per 10 g of nitrogen per square meter by approximately 500 to 600 g per year. When no nitrogen was applied, the sward had to be clipped four to five times per year, however, when 30 to 40 grams of nitrogen were applied per square meter, the turf had to be clipped from 12 to 15 times per year."
