Abstract/Contents:"Twenty-three mixtures of the five most wear tolerant and most used turfgrasses were established in five locations where they were trampled with a studded roller. Twelve of them were also sown on three soccer-fields. The tolerance to wear depending on the type and levels of treading was studied. The behavior of each species within the mixture was quite similar to that when in pure stand, but the phenomena of compensation and/or cooperation appear within the mixtures. The botanical compositions evolve with the levels of treading. The choice of cultivars appears to be of little importance with the small sample studied. The studded roller does not furnish us with representative results for either the degree of wear or the botanical composition. The use of carefully chosen mixtures is preferable only for moderately treaded surfaces."
