| Abstract/Contents: | "The performance of Tachigaren fungicide seed treatment was evaluated in laboratory and field investigations using seed of three turfgrass species. Tachigaren seed treatment at 3, 5, and 7g/kg seed were compared to recommended rates of Apron 25WP and Koban and not-treated seed of each of the three turfgrass species. Expected differences attributed to inherent germination speed for the varieties were noted for each of the three turfgrass species. There were no significant differences in germination speed for each of the variety/chemical treatments using fungicide treated seed. Eleven days after initiating the germination study, treatment with Tachigaren 5g, 7g/kg and Apron or Koban were better than other treatments for seedling stand development. Treatments with Tachigaren 3g/kg and not treated seed germination rates were statistically less than other treatments in the study. Additional investigations on seedling germination under intermittently wet and dry conditions demonstrated no negative effects of Tachigaren on seedling germination. Pre-emergent damping off and Pythium foliar blight bioassays demonstrated less root and shoot loss from Pythium damping off disease with the 7g/kg Tachigaren and Apron fungicide treatments. Tachigaren seed treatment had the best performance at the 5g and 7g/kg seed treatment rate." |
