| Abstract/Contents: | SUMMARY: "The question of finding ways of applying more cost-saving aspects to the management of golf links is becoming of greater importance for an increasing number of golf links. Many a golf club now considers the question whether to transfer part of the work in connection with the care of golf links from the proper permanent labour to hired contractors. In the following article the attempt is made to investigate the work on golf links as to whether it could be handled by a contractor. It became apparent in this connection that work to be carried out regularly, such as the clipping of the greens, can only be carried out by a permanent labour force. Hiring a contractor seems, on the contrary, advisable in all the cases when special machinery is required, as for example for subsoil loosening, making slits for drainage, etc. It requires a reliable and highly versed green keeper in any case to introduce and supervise the proper measures of management and care at the right time after having observed the development of the link." Tables given summarize the evaluations as to which tasks are most well suited and least well suited for an outside contractor, and arguments pro and contra contractors conclude the article. |
