| Abstract/Contents: | "A lawn roller with props and spring elements was to be developed to simulate, as truly as possible, the wear and tear of turf grasses as it generally occurs during soccer games through the running, jumping and stopping of the players, to permit the use of this roller, even under unfavouble circumstances by proper adjustment, to the different levels of intensity of wear and tear, [and] to avoid ruts as they are caused by a drawn implement. Construction and efficiency of the roller: Driven by a two-stroke "Sachs" engine, a spring bar device operates, followed by a roller, furnished with football props. Prop roller and spring bar device are connected by gear through a chain with a gear ratio of 1:0.55; thus, about 4% of the football props produce a jumping and stopping effect, as it happens in a soccer game. The roller has only one driving wheel, which hardly adds weight, so that no tracks are left, not even in soft soil. Since the roller is divided and provided with a semidifferential, it is easily operated and easily manageable." |
