| Abstract/Contents: | "During the third experiment carried out by the German Turf Society on the fertilization of turf, a third group of fertilizers was tested, viz. synthetic-organic fertilizers, so-called slow-acting fertilizers, regarding their effect on the properties of the turf sward. The nitrogen contained in these fertilizers, which is supplied only gradually, is only fully effective from the second growing season onwards. These fertilizers influenced favorable color and density of the sward. Weed infestation of the experimental plots varied in the course of the years at the various places. The slow acting fertilizers were not superior to the standard fertilizers, such as ammonium sulfa-nitrate/superphosphate/50% potash and blue complete fertilizer when the killing of weeds was concerned. The rate of growth depended, for the three groups of fertilizers, on the environment. There were fluctuations from one year to the next. When applied later, the slow- acting fertilizers influenced favourably the quality of the sward." In all, 12 synthetic-organic fertilizers were tested. The later application yielded positive results in the sward both during the winter months as well as into the spring. |
