| Abstract/Contents: | Summarized the principles of thatch formation and decomposition and those factors affecting it. Such concepts as tissue production versus decomposition, factors affecting thatch accumulation, plant growth rates, plant composition, causes of tissue decomposition, pesticides (and their relationship with thatch), soil fertility (especially nitrogen ratio), thatch pH, temperature and moisture aeration relationships as pertaining to thatch were reviewed. Tables included showed tissue compositions of ryegrass, bentgrass, Kentucky bluegrass and red fescue; tissue compaction and accumulation rates and influences of environmental factors on decomposition rates. |
