Abstract/Contents:'Acclaim' (Fenoxaprop-ethyl) was tested on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) in Washington State and Idaho to test for control on crabgrass. A postemergent herbicide with translocation abilities, Acclaim will kill the plant it controls but will not translocate from one tiller to another on the same plant. Death of the plant in the farms of chlorosis and the reddening or purpling of the leaves occurs 12 to 21 days after application. Although only tested on P. pratensis, Acclaim is reported applicable on perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), fine fescue (Festuca rubra spp.), tall fescue (Festuca arundinaceae), and annual bluegrass (Poa annua). Weeds reported controlled are: goosegrass (Eleusine indica), smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum), hairy crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis), barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli), foxtain spp. (Setaria spp.), panicum spp. (Panicum spp.) and Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense). Acclaim was shown to give excellent postemergence control of crabgrass. It also caused slight phytotoxicity to bluegrass (reducible by use of N and Fe as a tank mix with Acclaim) and severe injury to bentgrass. tank mixing Acclaim with broadleaf herbicides may cause a reduction in crabgrass control. Included were seven tables showing crabgrass control and phytotoxicity of Acclaim plus grassy weed herbicides on bluegrass at three locations and one location.
