Abstract/Contents:Reviewed the concept of deep tine aerification and other cultural management programs available to Northwest U.S. turf managers offered by Sportsturf Northwest, a turf maintenance company. Aerification is essential for proper sports turf maintenance, especially on a non-sand based system. A specialized aerifier, Verti-Drain, has the capability of driving 3/4" or 1" tines to a depth of 16" under ideal conditions; as of now, all results have been positive. Drainage has increased as has field playability and softness when combined with proper topdressing operation.
