| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses alternative thatch control methods. States that "since the late 1980s, golfers have been demanding - and expecting - faster and more consistent green speeds. As a result, some research and manufacturing firms have initiated a tungsten carbide-tipped linear blade verticutting technology program...to develop turf maintenance products for superintendents and turf technicians to balance the increasing need for aggressive thatch removal with green committee requirements for faster, smoother and true putting greens, while minimizing any disturbance to golf operations." Details how mower blades, grooming blades, and dethatching rakes work to reduce thatch on golf greens. Concludes that "thanks to these advancements, turf [managers] now [have] a wide range of mechanical methods to manage and control thatch in ways that will reduce disruption on the golf course." |
