Abstract/Contents:Discusses Pythium blight and notes that three factors seem to be needed for the growth of the disease: high humidity, poor air, and/or water drainage. Describes various treatments used to combat Pythium blight and provides the management plan of Ralph W. Firebaugh, superintendent of Forest Park Country Club in Martinsville, Virginia. Lists 3 reasons why "Pythium blight ranks with Rhizoctonia brown patch and Fusarium blight as the most difficult of turfgrass diseases to control when the weather is favorable for their development." Concludes that "the most effective Pythium blight control program is one based on preventive applications of fungicides. Since accurate early diagnosis of the disease is difficult, the most reliable indicator for determining when to begin the preventative program is night temperatures."
