Abstract/Contents:"By installing heating devices into the soil of turf playing grounds it may be possible to avoid the cancelling of plays. This is of particular importance when professional football is concerned. When installing heating devices into the soil, the soil physical aspects of the movement of heat, of which functionality and energy requirement depend, have so far not sufficiently been taken into consideration. These soil physical aspects can be traced from findings in the field of soil science. The heat transporting mechanisms and their overall conditions are presented in order to formulate requirements as to the construction and operation of turf sports grounds with soil heating devices. These have to be optimized in every individual case according to site."
