Abstract/Contents:"The fonofos seed treatment markedly reduced the number of frit-fly larvae. Since these larvae could only have originated from eggs deposited on or near seedlings, the implication is that fonofos has some systemic activity. Fonofos treatment had no significant effect on the proportion of parasitised larvae in any grass variety, and no effect overall, indicating a low or non-existent effect on the hymenopterans which parasitise the frit larvae. There was a significant response in herbage yield to the seed treatment in the year after sowing. The average yield increase obtained, 0.3 t/ha, would be worth about L15/ha (2) which is about twice the cost of the treatment."
