Abstract/Contents:Demonstrates how constructed wetlands can be used to limit runoff. The developing urban areas where golf courses are often located struggle with stormwater management. Researchers at Purdue University have shown that golf course wetlands are an excellent way of reducing surface water pollution from nutrients, sediments, and potential chemical pollutants. Their system demonstrated that created wetlands on golf courses can be used to filter golf course tile drains, as well as runoff from areas adjacent to the course. Advises that in order to ensure maximum water quality improvement, wetlands should be sufficiently sized to maximize water-holding during storms and to minimize outputs during non-storm periods.
