States that North Carolina state legislatures eliminated a tax exemption on turfgrass fertilizers to generate $6 to 7 million annually in revenue and turf industry lobbyists were able to earmark $600,000 each year "to support turfgrass research and extension programs through the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education."
