Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a study "investigating the need to control water flow off urband sports pitches" at Hillside school, Borehamwood in Hertfordhisre. States that the objectives of the study are to "1) qualify the limitations of the site and the potential of the proposed drainage installation, 2) quantify the rainfall that would reasonably be accounted for in the design of the sports pitch, and 3) establish cost effective measures to attenuate and temporarily store surplus water after short duration storms, restricting the outfall discharge rate to 201 sec-1." Also states that "a full site investigation includes a comprehensive study of the soil profile, slope grading, the lateral and slit drain systems to be installed, the pattern of rainfall over the last 10 years, and the limitations in the discharge of water from the site at the outfall point" and that the insensity of rainfall and the duration of storms are the focus of the study because of a requirement to ensure play is possible immediately after a light rain and within 24 hours after a heavy rain. Concludes that the objective is to control the dispatch of no more water than would naturally be expelled from a green-field site. |
