Abstract/Contents:Presents an eight-year study conducted to determine the effects of sand depth and its ageing on green characteristics. States that "four different thicknesses of sand (15, 30, 45, and 60 cm) were overlaid on a gravel layer" and "'pencross' creeping bentgrass was grown and putting conditions were maintained" and several green characteristics were measured. Results indicate "that soil moisture differences derived from different rootzone sand depths would affect the green's responses and ultimately the summer turfgrass quality" and concludes that "a sand root-zone depth of 30 cm and 45 cm [was] desirable for a two-tier sand-based bentgrass putting green in [the] area [where the study was conducted]."
