Abstract/Contents:"Seashore Paspalum, Paspalum vaginatum Swartz, is a warm season turfgrass that is increasing in usage for lawns and athlete playing surfaces in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. In October 2003, the variety SeaDwarf was found to be infested by greenbugs, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani). Six lines, SeaDwarf, SeaGreen, SeaIsle, SeaWay, SeaWolf, and H99-47 were evaluated for tolerance against this insect. Evaluations were conducted as a no-choice test in which a single insect was allowed to feed on a single host plant. SeaWolf demonstrated significantly higher levels of resistance against the greenbugs than the other lines tested. Greenbugs on H99-47 had a significantly shorter lifespan and reduced fecundity than the four remaining lines which were statistically similar to each other with respect to development and survival of the greenbug. Feeding damage rating among varieties was found to be significantly different during the first three days of feeding. After this date, damage ratings among all varieties were not significantly different."
