Abstract/Contents: | CONCLUSION: "The answer to the question posed by the title of this article is really - 'nothing is new'. We know a little more about the causes, but we can do little about preventing the formation of organic coatings on sand/soil particles. Reducing thatch, careful moisture control to prevent drying out, physical disruption of the soil to improve water infiltration and the use of wetting agents are the tools available to the greenkeeper for the prevention of dry patch formation. Saturating a green with irrigation water is not a solution as the low areas in the green will become water-logged and environmentally unhealthy for grass growth." |
