Abstract/Contents:Discusses sprayer calibration as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. States that "proper calibration of the application equipment is an important practice to ensure excellent pest control and plant health. Computerized sprayers can fail and parts can wear, and regular calibration can indicate a problem with a nozzle, pump or valve. Another important consideration for environmentally conscious superintendents is that sprayer calibration and documentation are requirements of IPM accredation." Lists personnel needed to perform sprayer calibration, including the spray technician, the assistant superintendent, the superintendent, or an IPM-accredited person on staff. Details the five steps involved sprayer calibration. Concludes that "documenting all information during this step-by-step process will prove vital when validating the efficacy of a pesticide, providing back-up information during a desk review or determining the life and maintenance costs of the sprayer."
