Abstract/Contents:States that "peat and soil are commonly used amendments in high-sand rootzone mixes for putting greens" but that "employing an amended rootzone alone will not result in irrigation water savings. Golf course superintendents must also adjust irrigation practices, specifically using a protocol that employs available water information and adjusts irrigation accordingly." Describes a study conducted by researchers at Ohio State University to determine the total available water capacity available for turf use. Concludes that "the location of the putting green within the U.S. will influence the absolute magnitude of irrigation water conservation".
