| Abstract/Contents: | This trial was intended to examine the use of a new growth regulator MBR 12325 on a sward of red fescue cv. Dawson, in relation to the physiological development of the grass. Two rates were applied at weekly intervals from the start of shoot apex elongation. The best results were obtained with the earliest treatments, which completely stopped seedhead production and, until autumn, reduced leaf growth. Later treatments were less effective but nevertheless gave some interesting results. A rate of 3 litre/ha commercial product was satisfactory on this species but some signs of phytotoxicity were observed after the summer drought. |
