Abstract/Contents:Discusses soil classification systems and states that "the complete soil name today indicates something about the amount and type of clay minerals present, the thickness of the soil, presence of restricting layers, and it even attempts to report the mean annual soils temperature." Describes a hypothetical soil profile with all the principal horizons. Concludes that "a deep well drained soil with desirable physical and chemical properties is desirable for most uses."
