Abstract/Contents:Discusses the possible advantages of using turfgrass mixtures. States that "mixtures are more widely adopted than a monospecies turf because a mixture of grasses should provide better protection from pest and environmental standards." Describes an experiment established September 7, 1968, "to study effects of seeding rates and mowing management upon the shift in botanical composition, sod quality, and persistence of several companion grasses when seeded with Kentucky bluegrass." Concludes that "there is no advantage of using annual ryegrass in a mixture with bluegrass, although it is quickly established." Recommends using Pelo and NK-100 instead, stating that "these perennial ryegrasses are more persistent and blend better with Kentucky bluegrass, thus providing a gradual and unnoticed transition to all bluegrass."
