Abstract/Contents:"We conducted a lysimeter trial over five years, with turf on sand construction. Different types of N fertilizers, like different IBDU-containing slow-release fertilizers and coated ferilizers with different amounts of coated granules were compared. We analysed leached N and the amounts of N in clippings and verticut material. To calculate an N-mass-balance the total-N content of the soil at beginning and end of the trial were analysed. The following results were achieved: The differences between the different fertilizer types were not very pronounced. About 50% of N Form fertilizer application were recovered in clippings. About 50% of N from fertilizer was accumulated as organically bound nitrogen in the soil; within these five years the amount increased from 100 to 196 g N/m2. N-Leaching was about 0.5 g N/m2 per year as a mean of all tested fertilizers (5 kg N/ha, 1.6% of total applied N). As a mean of the tested fertilizers we detected 108% of applied N in plants, soil and leachate. Thus possible gaseous N-losses from turf without wear can be considered as negligible when the tested fertilizers are applied."
