Abstract/Contents:Discusses why it is difficult to compare golf courses without understanding what may influence the overall conditions of the golf course. States that golfers compare golf courses because "the inherent inconsistency of the game combined with a playing field that is constantly changing, results in situations where excuses for one's own ineptitude need to be found." Distinguishes some of the agronomic and non-agronomic characteristics of golf courses and suggests ways on how to reduce the tendency to compare golf courses. Addresses concerns regarding the construction of faster greens, poor water drainage, too soft or too hard bunkers and short fairways.
