Abstract/Contents:Article relates the important factors which affect the speed of golf greens as measured by the stimpmeter. Efforts must be made to control or minimize stress factors as much as possible which include: poor drainage, moisture stress, soil compaction, diseases, insects, nematodes, heavy traffic, and tree effects (shade, root competition, poor air circulation). Other problems include: establishment of moss or algae; encroachment of crabgrass, goosegrass and other weeds; or proliferation of summer patch, take-all patch and other diseases. Recommendations for golf green speeds listed.
