Abstract/Contents:"The selective medium SM-GGT7 for Gaeumannomyces spp. Phialophora spp., and Magnaporthe poae has been developed to replace SM-GGT3, the medium previously used for Gaeumannomyces-like fungi (2). SM-GGT7 also replaces the previously reported medium SM-GGT4 (1). SM-GGT7 contains 39 g of Difco PDA, 100 mg of streptomycin, 10 mg of dichloran, 10 mg of metalaxyl, 50 mg of vinclozolin, 1 mg of CGA-173506, and 500 mg of L-dopa per liter of deionized water; amounts given are for active ingredients. A sample of CGA-173506, a phenylpyrrole, may be contained from Vince Morton (CIBA-GEIGY Corp., Agricultural Division, P.O. Box 18300, Greensboro, NC 27419). The antibiotics and fungicides are added to sterile molten PDA cooled to 50 C. In comparisons of isolation efficacy using turfgrass field samples with root rot symptoms typically caused by Gaeumannomyces-like fungi, SM-GGT7 was as effective as SM-GGT3 in isolating these fungi from plant tissue."
