Abstract/Contents:Discusses the use of water bodies on golf courses, stating that water bodies "should follow the principles...of interlock, proportion, shape and rhythm as their application can enhance visual interest with the further benefit of offering shelter to wildlife." Suggests using taller growing emergent plants "for greater obscurity and variety" and states that water bodies "need to be located where they might occur naturally, i.e. low areas, but should also be characteristic of the surrounding larger landscape to maximise integrtion and harmony in the design." Concludes that "the semi-natural approach is the approach to lessen conventionality and enhance beauty, as opposed to more artificial, bare and ugly treatment of water bodies with, for example, the use of short-living railway tie bulkheads. There is no reason why we should not have true art in our golf landscapes."
