Abstract/Contents:Discusses the agreement between the Florida Sod Growers Cooperative (FSGC) and the Florida Foundation Seed Producers (FFSP) "for the final development and testing of an experimental line of St. Augustinegrass, which has shown promise for improved chinch-bug resistance in initial trials." States that "the... St. Augustinegrass produces a lush, dense turf with a finer leaf blade than Floratam, which may make it more attractive to homeowners accustomed to zoysiagrass or bermudagrass lawns." Describes the agreement providing "two years of testing on farm sites throughout Florida to determine how the variety performs under typical grower production practices." States that "if the variety proves to be experimentally viable, the FGSC will have the option of becoming the licensing entity for the new line." Concludes that "the FSGC also has a long-standing commitment to turfgrass research and to educating governmental agencies and the public about the industry and the benefits of turfgrass."
