Abstract/Contents: | States that "the turf industry succeeds or fails based on how successfully turf managers (golf and sports turf), parks and recreation departments, sod producers, pest control companies, lawncare companies and all the supporting supplier companies keep their operations profitable." States that "turf is big business and [they] do have [their] own R&D [Research and Development] department...the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS)." Describes the volumes on turfgrass research that the IFAS publishes each year, stating that "some of these studies are pure basic science...many are applied-science studies dedicated to specific problem-solving." Concludes that "the only way to preserve [the turf] industry, while protecting...businesses and the environment, is through continuous education and learning about [the] product - turfgrass." |
