| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program (MTESP), "a voluntary proactive initiative designed to prevent pollution and increase compliance with environmental laws on golf course properties." States that "the MTESP is a true partnership between Michigan Department of Agriculture, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan State University, and Michigan's golf industry, represented by the four Michigan GCSA [Golf Course Superintendents Association] chapters, the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association, the Golf Association of Michigan and the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation." Lists services the program offers, including "updates on pending legislation impacting the golf industry" and "public recognition for stewardship achievements." States that "the program's participating golf properties actively work toward achieving their environmental goals through the MTESP's eight environmental modules," including "wellhead protection"; "fuel storage"; and "pesticide handling and application." Explains that "areas for...development include habitat enhancement, construction standards for golf, and environmental management systems." Concludes that "the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program is a success and the model for the rest of the country because it is a valuable tool for the golf course superintendent, owner, management, and golfer." |
