Abstract/Contents:Discusses wet wilt, "a problem in turfgrasses that is not well understood or studied." States that the summer of 2005 "was among the most stressful [of the last 25 years in the Mid-Atlantic Region], with significant losses of turfgrass on greens." Describes heat stress, stating that "heat stress is a common summertime problem in many regions of the U.S." Defines the two different types of heat stress: direct and indirect. States that "soil temperatures have a huge effect on the root systems of grasses." Notes that "wet wilt occurs when there is adequate soil moisture, yet roots cannot absorb water fast enough to meet the transpirational...needs of a plant." Details management options for greens that are showing signs of injury from wet wilt or other summer stresses.
