| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to determine "whether or not after an extended period of time, 10 years, will the amount of nitrate-nitrogen leaching from a turfgrass system change." Describes the four lysimeters used in the experiment. stating that "two of the large lysimeters and surrounding turf area were treated annually with 245 kilograms (kg) Nitrogen (N) per hectare (ha-1) (5 pounds [lb.] N/1000 square feet [ft2])...[and] the remaining two lysimeters and surrounding turf area were treated annually with 98 kg N ha-1 (2 lb. N/1000 ft2) split over two application dates." Details the treatments for 2003-2005. Reports that for 1998-2002 "the average total labeled N recovery among turfgrass clippings, verdue, thatch, soil, and roots for the low and high N rates was 78 and 74% respectively." Also reports the leachate rates for 2003-2005. Provides tables concerning the nitrate-nitrogen concentration in leachate. Concludes that "nitrogen applications of 98 kg N ha-1 resulted in low levels of nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) leaching through the lysimeters from 1998 through 2005." |
