Abstract/Contents:Describes three perennial ryegrass trials established in 1994 and 1995 at the Plant Science Research Center in Adelphia, New Jersey, and the Turfgrass Research Facility in North Brunswick, New Jersey. Explains that "all tests were rated at frequent intervals throughout the growing season for turf quality (i.e., attractive appearance, turf color, uniformity, density, clean mowing, reduced rate of vertical growth, leaf texture, spring green-up, and insect and disease damage)." Concludes that "although perennial ryegrasses have been considerably improved through breeding efforts, there is still a need to develop varieties that perform better under conditions of low fertility, are more heat and cold hardy, and possess the ability to survive under ice sheets for extended periods."
