Abstract/Contents: | Asks "how does a designer create something for the ages?" States that "we are in something of a fix right now where the only way a developer or designer can seem to get attention in the magazine ratings is to build something that looks like it came right out of the sheep pasture." Explains that "staying power means enjoyment, round after round Describes a golf course in mountainous terrain, and discusses potential problems the course may face. States that the course "now [has] a hefty loan to retire on the new course." Also states that "the best courses on the PGA [Professional Golfers Association] Tour are not the ones that would get rave reviews in the media today. They are practical, fun to play, easy to set up for competition, and have a good margin for adjustment under various environmental conditions and player performance." Concludes that "[good] courses have good drainage and a healthy growing environment and, of course, a superintendent who has the skills and budget to produce good playing conditions." |
