Abstract/Contents:Describes the Prescription Athletic Turf (PAT) system, stating that "the concept was to do away with pop-up sprinklers and piping from the soil profile." Details how "the PAT concepts were also developed for golf green construction and the profile was divided into a large number of small self-contained units on a contoured basis with the capillary watering being controlled separately for each zone." Briefly discusses drip technology. Concludes that "when you look at the savings in running costs for such a system over a conventional system and the relatively low cost of the instillation material (perhaps out weighed by the sheer quantity) there appears to be some long-term material advantages. Add these to the advantage of being able to distribute grey water and other forms of recycled water below surface, without health hazards from spray or mist and there are numerous advantages in total environmental terms."
