| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted "on plant growth regulators (PGR) with particular focus on their use with and effects on kikuyu ( Pennisetum clandestinum). Lists the PGR treatments, which "included a low and high rate of: Ethephon, Maleic Hydrazide, Trinexapac Ethyl, Paclobutrazol and one rate of Metsulfuron Methyl." Also lists the response parameters investigated as: "1) Shoot density; 2) Degree and longevity of regulation; 3) Root density; 4) Chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll levels; 5) Scalping potential, and 6) Effect on weed infestation." Reports results on shoot density, clipping weights, chlorophyll content, and root weights. Concludes that "of the nine combinations of chemical and application rate tested, Trinexepac Ethyl at 480grams/hectares was found to be the most appropriate plant growth regulator for the management of kikuyu on fairways or other high-class situations under south-west Sydney conditions. For growth suppression in lower grade kikuyu turf, Maleic Hydrazide at the rate of 3816g/ha was found to be an economical tool provided that the negative effects can be tolerated." |
