"Van de voedergrassen Festuca arundinacea (rietzwenkgras) en Lolium perenne (Engels raaigras) zijn rassen bekend die resistentie bezitten tegen bepaalde insekten en schimmels. Dit wordt veroorzaakt door endofyten. Dit zijn schimmels die in het inwendige van de plant leven. Door deze endofyten worden toxische stoffen gevormd die schadelijk kunnen zijn voor het vee. Omdat het gras zelf geen schade lijdt, zijn deze rassen geschikt als gazongras. Enkele voorbeelden zijn: Pepell (Engels raaigras) en Rebel (rietzwenkgras)"
