Abstract/Contents: | Within the next decade, turfgrass research is going to provide us with new tools and techniques to carry turfgrass management business into the 21st century. In the past, many of the research works were repeated and unbeneficial. This the turfgrass industry can no longer afford. By pooling our resources and coordinating our efforts, we can influence turfgrass research and guide it into productive channels. The bond between the GCSAA and the USGA Green Section has grown closer in recent years. Just for this year and next (1984-85), the USGA Executive Committee has approved $721,000 for turfgrass research. GCSAA membership has and will continue to lend tremendous support. The list of the projects past and present include: Turfgrass Research Library, Computer data base, Michigan State University; Plant stress mechanism, Texas A&M; Breeding projects, Texas A&M, Univ. of Minnesota; Coastal plain exp. station, Georgia, Univ. New Mexico, Univ. of Nebraska, Univ. of Mississippi, Rutgers Univ., Univ. of Rhode Island; Compaction and cultivation, Michigan State Univ., Turfgrass rooting, Univ. Nebraska; Spring Dead Spot study, Osmatic adjustment, Washington State Univ., Endomycorrhiza Fungi, Cornell Univ." |
