Abstract/Contents:Discusses the effective use of trees on golf courses and the benefits of using trees on a golf course. States that "trees are valuable to many landscapes, both aesthetically and environmentally. Trees can create definition and separation, and they are helpful in screening unwanted views and softening the appearance of structures." Also states that trees can be dangerous because they "can damage property and injure or even kill people." Also discusses the traffic problems caused by trees stating that "trees located in high-traffic areas create permanent traffic patterns that funnel traffic and concentrate wear problems. The combined effects of concentrated traffic, shade, and root competition frequently push turf over the edge and make it virtually impossible to maintain turf cover." Also mentions the effect trees have on playability. Concludes that moderation is key in respect to golf course tree plantings.
