Abstract/Contents:Cutless (flurprimidol) and Embark (mefluidide) are two plant growth regulators (PGR) that have found application on golf course turf. Cutless is not commercially available; Embark has been available for 8 years. Cutless regulates growth by inhibiting gibberellic acid synthesis. Mefluidide application to annual bluegrass turf, when properly timed, yields excellent bluegrass seedhead control. Rooting of annual bluegrass improved with treatments of mefluidide. Treated turf develops a darker green color due to PGR treatments. Mowing frequency may drop to once every one to two weeks, when using PGR's. Cutless may be used as a chemical aid to the conversion of mixed species fairways to predominately creeping bentgrass. Embark can cause an increase in annual bluegrass and perhaps make this species less susceptible to summer heat and drought.
