Abstract/Contents:Article discusses the use of gypsum in alkaline or heavy clay soils to improve water infiltration rates. Factors involved include: size of the drainage area, the degree or siltation existing in the poorly drained spot, and the nature of the soil profile with respect to texture and subsoil. Gypsum aids in disposing of the excess water when the impermeable layer of soil is near the surface, and when it is underlain by permeable sands or gravels which permit good underdrainage.
